The Swanage Jazz Club in partnership with the Isle of Purbeck Golf Club are pleased to present João Menezes, alongside Marcinho Pereira on drums and Matheus Nova on bass, bring an intimate night of Brazilian music to the stage. The trio explore the rich rhythms of Bossa Nova, Samba, Baião and Ijexá, performing arrangements by Tom Jobim, Guinga, João Bosco, Djavan, Gilberto Gil, and other iconic composers.

João Menezes is a Portuguese singer, guitarist, and composer based in London. A graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with a degree in jazz guitar, João has a deep passion for blending the rhythmic traditions of Brazilian music with the harmonic and improvisational language of jazz. His music explores styles like Bossa Nova, Samba, Ijexá, Baião, and MPB, all delivered with a sophisticated jazz influence. João’s repertoire also includes jazz standards, blues, rock, soul and pop, showcasing his versatility as both a performer and composer.

João has performed at many prestigious venues across the UK, including the Hampstead Jazz Club, The Pheasantry (Pizza Express), 606 Club, Vortex Jazz Club, and Cheltenham Playhouse.

With his unique ability to fuse Brazilian rhythms and jazz influences, João continues to captivate audiences with his soulful performances and passion for musical innovation.
